3 Technology Links!
These are tools for both the parent and the student to use if they see fit. The first is called Inspiration, the second is called Blogs in Plain English, and the third is Google. Google has endless resources that you should know about. Have a look! All three will point you in the right direction of organizing your learning environment. Thanks!

Vygotsky and You
Look at this video on Lev Vygotsky. Vygotsky was a proponent of "helping children up" or "scaffolding" their efforts by challenging them and supporting them as they reach for more difficult concepts. Later we will discuss Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development.
As an educator if you don't feel like the challenge is before them, the students are growing complacent and their learning is stagnating. Pull the comfortable rug out from underneath their feet and stir up their thinking and learning. Don't hesitate to contact me for ideas.

Technology or Lack There of...
Someone thought it would be a good idea to teach like your hair is on fire. Considering the attention span of kids these days it seems like a good idea. If you so much as skip a beat they are likely to lose interest and tune out. So how do you keep them interested without lighting your hair on fire, and inviting Robin Williams to teach the class? You use the technological tools at your disposal.
When the lights of the classroom dim and there is a presentation going with notes that need to be taken and an assessment afterward most students zero in. The tools necessary for this type of presentation would be a computer hooked up to a projector that is running PowerPoint or some version of it. The lecture or teacher-centered approach does not cut the job these days. You are not a lecturer but rather you are now a magician and an entertainer as well as a trickster. Use technology to trick the students in to learning.
